Several dates — Teatro Cervantes, Málaga
Shostakovich and Beethoven, performed by the Málaga Philharmonic Orchestra (OFM) at Teatro Cervantes in Málaga, on 12 and 13 November 2026 at 8pm, part of its 2026–27 subscription season. Conducted by the Mexican conductor Alondra de la Parra, one of the best-known conductors on the international scene, with Thomas Enhco on piano and Alfonso González Barquín on trumpet.
The programme opens with Dmitri Shostakovich's Festive Overture, written in 1954 for the Bolshoi Theatre: a brilliant, fanfare-driven, fast-paced piece that has become one of the most popular concert openers. It's followed by his Concerto No. 1 for piano, trumpet and string orchestra, Op. 35 (1933), a sparkling, ironic work in which the trumpet acts as a mocking counterpoint to the piano, with nods to music hall and to the silent-film music the composer played in his youth.
The second half is devoted to Beethoven's Third Symphony, the “Eroica” (1803–04). Beethoven originally planned to dedicate it to Napoleon, but struck out his name on learning he had crowned himself emperor. Its scale and ambition changed the history of the symphony forever: a monumental first movement, a famous funeral march, and a finale built as a set of variations.
Tickets from €12 (up to €58) at the Teatro Cervantes box office and through Unientradas.
From Thursday 12 November 2026 to Friday 13 November 2026.
