Several dates — Teatro Cervantes, Málaga
Ein deutsches Requiem (A German Requiem) by Brahms, performed by the Málaga Philharmonic Orchestra (OFM) at Teatro Cervantes in Málaga, on 18 and 19 March 2027 at 8pm, as the Holy Week concert of its 2026–27 subscription season. Conducted by José María Moreno, with soprano Giulia Semenzato, baritone Alfonso Mujica and the National Choir of Spain, directed by Miguel Ángel García Cañamero.
Ein deutsches Requiem, Op. 45, is one of the great choral works of the 19th century, and the piece that established Johannes Brahms's reputation. Unlike the Catholic requiem, it doesn't follow the Latin mass for the dead: Brahms chose his own texts from Luther's German Bible and arranged them to console the living, not to pray for the dead. The work premiered at Bremen Cathedral on Good Friday 1868 and reached its final seven-movement form a year later.
The choir takes centre stage throughout, from the overwhelming “Denn alles Fleisch, es ist wie Gras” to the serene “Wie lieblich sind deine Wohnungen”, while the soprano and baritone take on two of the score's most moving moments.
A special date in the heart of Málaga's Holy Week, with orchestra, choir and soloists on the Cervantes stage. Tickets from €12 (up to €58) at the Teatro Cervantes box office and through Unientradas.
From Thursday 18 March 2027 to Friday 19 March 2027.
