Mahler's “Resurrection” Symphony, performed by the Málaga Philharmonic Orchestra (OFM) at Teatro Cervantes in Málaga, on 17 and 18 June 2027 at 8pm, as the grand closing concert of its 2026–27 subscription season. Conducted by José María Moreno, with soprano Vanessa Goikoetxea, mezzo-soprano Nancy Fabiola Herrera, the Coral Cármina Nova and the Málaga Opera Choir.

Gustav Mahler's Symphony No. 2 in C minor is one of the most monumental works ever written for orchestra. Mahler worked on it between 1888 and 1894 and premiered it in Berlin in 1895. Across five movements it asks the great questions about life, death and the meaning of existence: it opens with a funeral march, moves through a delicate Ländler, an ironic scherzo and the song “Urlicht” (“Primeval Light”), sung by the mezzo-soprano.

The finale is one of the most overwhelming experiences a concert hall can offer: after a long orchestral storm with brass placed offstage, the choir enters in a whisper with the ode “Auferstehn” (“You will rise again”), and the work culminates in an apotheosis of organ, bells, choir and full orchestra.

With a large number of performers on stage, it's the perfect way to close the OFM's season. Tickets from €12.29 (up to €59.39) at the Teatro Cervantes box office and through Unientradas.

From Thursday 17 June 2027 to Friday 18 June 2027.
