Several dates — Teatro Cervantes, Málaga
Glinka, Tchaikovsky, Stravinsky and Falla, performed by the Málaga Philharmonic Orchestra (OFM) at Teatro Cervantes in Málaga, on 11 and 12 March 2027 at 8pm, part of its 2026–27 subscription season. Conducted by Gibraltar-born Karel Mark Chichon, with violinist Sergej Krylov as soloist.
The concert opens with the overture to Mikhail Glinka's opera Ruslan and Lyudmila (1842), considered the father of Russian music: five minutes of sheer orchestral energy. It's followed by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky's Violin Concerto in D major, Op. 35 (1878), one of the most beloved and demanding concertos in the repertoire. After a poorly received premiere in Vienna, it's now essential listening for its lyricism, its central Canzonetta and its exhilarating, folk-inspired finale.
The second half brings together Russia and Spain through Diaghilev's Ballets Russes. First, the suite from Igor Stravinsky's The Firebird (1910), the ballet that made the composer's name, with its famous Infernal Dance and radiant finale. And to close, the Second Suite from Manuel de Falla's The Three-Cornered Hat, premiered in London in 1919 with sets by Picasso: the Neighbours' Dance, the Miller's Farruca and the final jota, pure Andalusian and Spanish colour in the orchestra.
Tickets from €12 (up to €58) at the Teatro Cervantes box office and through Unientradas.
From Thursday 11 March 2027 to Friday 12 March 2027.
