Several dates — Teatro Cervantes, Málaga
Beethoven, “Emperor” and “Pastoral”, performed by the Málaga Philharmonic Orchestra (OFM) at Teatro Cervantes in Málaga, on 6 and 7 May 2027 at 8pm, part of its 2026–27 subscription season. Conducted by Italian conductor Alvise Casellati, with young pianist Alexandra Dovgan, one of the great piano discoveries of recent years.
A programme devoted entirely to Ludwig van Beethoven, with two of his best-loved works. The first half brings his Piano Concerto No. 5 in E-flat major, Op. 73, the “Emperor” (1809), composed while Napoleon's troops were bombarding Vienna. The nickname isn't Beethoven's own, but it captures the work's grandeur well: a majestic opening with the piano to the fore, an Adagio of enormous serenity, and a final rondo full of vitality.
The second half brings the Sixth Symphony in F major, Op. 68, the “Pastoral” (1808), a tribute to the nature Beethoven loved so much. Across its five movements we hear the awakening in the countryside, the murmur of a stream with birdsong, a country celebration, a storm and a final song of gratitude. The composer himself described it as “more an expression of feeling than painting”.
A perfect concert for enjoying Beethoven at his most luminous. Tickets from €10 (up to €43) at the Teatro Cervantes box office and through Unientradas.
From Thursday 6 May 2027 to Friday 7 May 2027.
