Poster for OFM · Bach, Liszt y Rachmaninov

Bach, Liszt and Rachmaninov, performed by the Málaga Philharmonic Orchestra (OFM) at Teatro Cervantes in Málaga, on 1 and 2 April 2027 at 8pm, part of its 2026–27 subscription season. Conducted by Yeruham Scharovsky, with four pianists on stage: Tomer Lev, Berenika Glixman, María José de Bustos and Anita May.

An unusual programme bringing four pianos onto the stage at once. It opens with Johann Sebastian Bach's Concerto for Four Harpsichords and Orchestra in A minor, BWV 1065, an arrangement of Antonio Vivaldi's concerto for four violins (from L'estro armonico), heard here on piano.

It's followed by Hexaméron, a historical curiosity: in 1837, six great pianists of their day – Liszt, Thalberg, Pixis, Herz, Czerny and Chopin – each wrote a variation on a march from Bellini's opera I puritani for a charity concert in Paris. It's heard here in a transcription by Tomer Lev for several pianos and orchestra.

The second half brings back Sergei Rachmaninov's First Symphony in D minor, Op. 13. Its 1897 premiere was such a resounding failure that the composer fell into depression and stopped composing for years. The score was thought lost and was only recovered after his death. Today it's valued as an intense, passionate work, and hearing it live is a rare opportunity.

Tickets from €10 (up to €43) at the Teatro Cervantes box office and through Unientradas.

From Thursday 1 April 2027 to Friday 2 April 2027.
