Sunday 13 December 2026 at 7pm — Teatro Cervantes, Málaga
La rosa del azafrán, by Jacinto Guerrero, is performed at Teatro Cervantes in Málaga on Sunday 13 December 2026 at 7pm, as part of the Teatro Lírico Andaluz's 21st Málaga Zarzuela Season.
Loosely inspired by Lope de Vega's play El perro del hortelano, it's one of the most beautiful and best-loved zarzuelas in the repertoire. In rural early-20th-century Spain, the humble farmer Juan Pedro and the wealthy landowner Sagrario love each other, but class difference and pride keep them apart. Between comic characters such as Catalina and Moniquito, and thanks to a clever servant, the story ends in a wedding.
With Carmen Serrano and Pablo Prados, who also directs, musical direction by Ángel Chinchilla, and the Teatro Lírico Andaluz's choir and orchestra. Running time: 2 hours with an interval. Tickets from €7.17 (up to €34.82).
