Several dates — Teatro Cervantes, Málaga
Don Procopio, Georges Bizet's comic opera, is performed at Teatro Cervantes in Málaga as part of the XXXVIII Lyric Season, on 4 December 2026 at 7.30pm and 6 December at 6pm.
Bizet composed it at barely 20 years old, while staying in Rome on a Prix de Rome scholarship, long before Carmen. It's a comedy in the Italian style, in the line of Rossini and Donizetti, about an elderly, miserly suitor, Don Procopio, whom young Bettina's family wants her to marry for his money, while she loves someone else. Mix-ups, disguises and plenty of comedy, in an opera that wasn't premiered until 1906 and is rarely staged today.
A rarity from the repertoire, and a chance to discover Bizet as a very young composer. Tickets from €28.67 (up to €196.61).
